Badminton Court - all you need to know about!

To win the war, it is important to have a decent knowledge of your battleground.  In the case of badminton, the battles are fought in the area of 1250 sqft. 

In recent decades, it has been seen that Badminton has gained its popularity in India. All thanks to our golden girls, P V Sindhu & Saina Nehwal. The duo of them brought our country to the podium once again. Whether they are representing India in the Olympics or any other International Events, they are inspiring millions of others to achieve their dreams through the sport. 

Due to that, we can see many Badminton Academies are now emerged to assist the youngsters in their voyage of either representing the country or just, stay fit. Having a thorough idea about how the game should be played is a must for all of them.

Badminton is a kind of game, we all (most of us) have played once (at least). You don’t need to know all the tricks and tips just to start the game. Just hold your shuttlecock in one hand and racket in other – you are good to go. Most of us, don’t even have the proper court or set up when we first played our Badminton Game. But to ace the game, you need a little more than that. 

Dimensions for Badminton Court – The badminton is played on the rectangular court. The dimensions of the court are

Length – 44 feet (13.4 meters)

Width – 20 feet (6.1 meters)

The game can be played in two ways, i.e., singles and doubles. Singles consist of one opponent each side while in doubles there are two opponents each side. The dimensions of the badminton court remain the same in doubles but singles the width of the court become 17 feet (5.18 meters). 

Badminton Net: - The badminton net divides the court into two equal parts. The height of the net varies from edges to the middle. In the edges, it is 5 feet 1 inch tall (1.55 meters) while at the center, it is 5 feet tall (1.524 meters). 

Centerline: - The center line starts with the short service line and goes to the back boundary line by passing through the long service line. The length of the centerline is 15 feet 6 inches (4.72 meters).

Short service line: - the short service line is drawn 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 meters) far from the badminton net. The area from the badminton net and the short service line is considered as the Non-Volley Zone. The short service line is the closest area from the Badminton net from where the player can service.

Long service line for Doubles: - the long service line is the distant area from badminton net from where the player can service. It is 2 feet 6 inches (0.76 meters) from the Back-boundary line. 

Sidelines for doubles: - this line is the outward line of the Badminton court. The points are scored only if the shuttlecock falls on or away from this line in the game of doubles. 

Sidelines for singles: - this line lies 1.5 feet (0.457 meters) from the outward lines.
